Learn - School Curriculum

The curriculum for Kindergarten is based on the principles described in the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and has a strong emphasis on play-based learning.  The curriculum for Prep to Year 6 is based on the National Australian Curriculum.  Teachers plan learning experiences and units of work within the curriculum which strongly reflect, and are underpinned by, the Biblical worldview of our Christian School.

The curriculum for Prep to Year 6 covers:

  • Biblical Studies
  • English
  •  Mathematics
  • Science
  •  Geography
  •  History
  •  The Arts
  •  Languages
  • Health and Physical Education

Each learning area has a scope and sequence, which outlines the continuity of the curriculum across all year levels.  In the areas of English, Mathematics, Biblical Studies and Health and Physical Education, the yearly overview is broken down into terms and weeks.

In the areas of Science, Geography, History, Languages and The Arts, each subject is taught in units of work which may extend over a few weeks or a term.

As Channel Christian School runs composite classes, the curriculum is either covered in each year level, or across two year levels.  In English and Mathematics, the curriculum is taught explicitly to each year level within the composite class.

In other learning areas, such as Science, Geography and History, teachers identify common outcomes across both year levels and plan units accordingly.
